‘Why only us?': Migrant farm workers push back on state's COVID-19 testing mandate
The State of Michigan mandated COVID-19 testing due to several outbreaks on farms throughout Michigan. Between May 1 and early July, 2020 there were 102 cases linked to two farms in the Oceana County, according to Bridge Magazine,
The August 3 emergency order from MDHHS Director Robert Gordon requires testing of all agriculture workers living in on-farm premises to be tested within 48 hours of their arrival. The order applies to workers at seasonal farms and nurseries, as well as meat, poultry and egg processing plants.
